Swimming Retreat
Big Island, Hawaii

Sunday 25 August – Friday 30 August, 2024

Video Analysis, Technique Instruction,
Open Water Adventure Swims.

The Big Island overflows with scenic beauty, such as rain forests, waterfalls, rainbows, the snow-capped mountains of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa, and gorgeous beaches with white, black and even green sand. It is the largest island in the Hawaiian archipelago. It’s less than a million years old and still growing.  It’s twice the size of all the other Hawaiian Islands combined and it’s getting larger every day due to the world’s most active volcano – Kilauea.

Our retreat will be based in Kona, home of the Ironman Triathlon World Championships.  The water is often clear and sheltered from winds which makes for ideal swimming conditions.  Spinner dolphins, manta rays, monk seals and sea turtles are just some of the marine life that we may see during our swimming adventures. We will swim over coral reefs and along volcanic coastlines that are often teeming with tropical fish.

Master Swim Coach Tracey Baumann will lead this camp. Tracey has a wealth of coaching expertise and experience. She is the creator of the Swim Mastery swimming technique.

Who is the Retreat For?

This retreat is ideal for the swimmer who likes to view marine life in great visibility. You will need to have a basic understanding of open water swimming and be capable of completing an average swim distance of 1 km prior to the start of the trip. The average daily swim distance is between 2-4 km split between the morning and afternoon. Those who want to do more will have the option to do so.

  • Swimming Technique

    Swimming Technique

We have a wide range of swimmers attend our camps. These include swimmers recovering from injury, new swimmers, triathletes, families and friends, mature age swimmers etc. We tend to swim at an easy to medium pace (and there is an opportunity for faster swimming if you want to).

We swim in small groups and maintain a ratio of 1 support person/coach to every 6 swimmers. This provides many opportunities for individual attention and coaching on our swims.

We coach the SwimMastery technique. We focus on how the mind and body work together in the water. This technique keeps your joints safe and we learn how to use body mechanics to maximise your swimming potential.
