Our Training Pathways

Whether new to coaching and instructing or quite experienced, we invite you to get deeply acquainted with the values, the theory and the principles behind what we teach and how, including insights from physics, physiology, body mechanics, motor learning and psychology.

Our coach and instructor training pathways introduce you to progressively complex facets of coaching, from fundamental skills and working with individuals, to advanced and working with groups, in pool, open water and for expedition and performance training. Supplemental training courses cover the additional stroke styles, working with children, trauma-informed coaching, open water and leading training squads.

The Coach Training pathway and the Swim School Instructor pathway are two separate paths. The Coach Training pathway focuses on skills for serving a wide range of adult swimmers, from learning to swim to swimming for major personal achievements. The Swim School Instructor Training pathway focuses on skills for teaching children 3 to 16 years old, including water safety and learning to swim with all four competitive strokes, in the pool and in open water.

Prospective members will start with an Affiliate Membership to get acquainted with our coach trainers and community and demonstrate their intention to start the training.

Successfully completing the first level of training opens up the opportunity for membership at the SwimMastery Coach or Swim School Instructor level and subsequent levels of coach training, including supplemental training courses. Participating in training courses and attending monthly webinars and online coaching demonstrations are the primary way our members continue their education and skill development. Active subscribing members of the SwimMastery community may continue on the coach or instructor training pathway. Inactive members must renew their subscription in order to participate in subsequent training events.
